Privacy Policy
Spinner - Vinyl Companion App
Last updated: May 12, 2026
This policy describes what information Spinner ("the app", "we") collects, how it is used, and your rights as a user. By using Spinner you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information we collect
- Vinyl collection data: album titles, artists, genres, conditions, and notes you enter. Stored locally on your device in SQLite.
- Photos of records: when you use the AI condition grader, the photo you select is sent to our backend for analysis. Photos are not stored on our servers after the response is returned.
- Subscription status: whether you have an active subscription, handled by RevenueCat. Apple processes all payments — we never see your card.
- Device and attribution identifiers: the iOS vendor identifier (IDFV) and, if you grant permission via the App Tracking Transparency prompt, the advertising identifier (IDFA). Used for marketing attribution.
- Onboarding analytics: which onboarding screens you complete and which paywall actions you take. Used to measure conversion and improve the flow.
2. App Tracking Transparency
On first launch, iOS shows the App Tracking Transparency permission prompt asking whether Spinner may use your advertising identifier (IDFA) for marketing attribution. If you decline, Spinner still works exactly the same — you will not see ads (Spinner has no ads at any time) and core features are unaffected. The only difference is that attribution is performed without IDFA, using probabilistic methods provided by our attribution partner.
3. Camera and photo library
Spinner requests camera access so you can photograph a record for AI condition grading, and photo library access so you can pick an existing photo for the same purpose. Photos are used only for the AI grading request you trigger; they are not uploaded for any other purpose, not stored on our servers, and not shared.
4. Third-party services
We do not sell your data. We share minimally with:
- Apple iTunes API — to look up album metadata and artwork from search queries you make. Refer to Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Last.fm — to enrich album and artist information.
- Anthropic (Claude) — for the AI condition grader, album storyteller, and mood-based picks. Photos and album text are sent to Anthropic via our backend proxy. Anthropic does not train models on this data.
- RevenueCat — for subscription management.
- Adjust — for marketing attribution. Adjust receives your IDFV and, if you grant App Tracking Transparency permission, your IDFA, along with install and event timestamps.
- Scate — for onboarding funnel analytics. Scate receives anonymized event names (e.g. which onboarding screen you reached) tied to a device identifier.
- Apple — for payment processing and app delivery.
5. Data storage
Your collection is stored locally on your device using SQLite. We do not maintain a server-side copy of your collection. AI feature responses (grades, stories, mood picks) are cached locally so you can view them offline; the underlying photo or query is not retained on our servers after the response is returned.
6. What we do NOT collect
- No location data.
- No contacts.
- No microphone access.
- No advertising. Spinner displays no ads, and your data is never sold to advertisers.
7. Children's privacy
Spinner is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
8. Your rights
You can delete all your data at any time by uninstalling the app. Locally stored data is removed with the app. For deletion of marketing attribution or analytics records associated with your device, contact us using the email below.
9. Changes
If we change this policy materially, we will update the date above and notify you in the app.
